Business Retreat in Fiji

I am a member of a business executives’ club with members all over the world. Our group was founded 85 years ago, and it’s weathered all sorts of economic up and downs during that time, so we regard the current recession as part of the cycle; we know it’ll turn around, sooner or later. Just as things can’t be all good all the time, they also can’t be all bad all the time, right?
Every year our club hosts a retreat; I was a member of the committee in charge of choosing the site for this year. We decided we wanted to travel to Fiji. Out of all the places members have gone to on retreat, we’ve never gone to Fiji. I should add that our association is an informal one; although our members are mostly prominent business executives, membership is strictly voluntary and by invitation. It’s a private club, rather than a business association and dues and expenses are paid by the members themselves, rather than their companies.
We do a lot of networking among ourselves; in these times that’s especially important. The selection committee debated the expense of holding the retreat at a Fiji hotel and finally came to the conclusion after talking it over with our membership that the ambience and value offered to us made it worth the price and the distance. Many of our members are counting on a place to relax and get away from all the stresses they face these days. We can talk about deficit spending anywhere else.
