When Only One Of You Wants Help

People who have drug problems are often in relationships with others who have these problems. This can cause a lot of highs and lows in the relationship. It can also cause a lot of problems when you finally decide that you’re ready to get help from drug rehab.
It is often the case that only one person in the relationship wants to get help. The other person may perceive himself as having less of a problem and therefore not needing help. Alternatively, he may be so deeply entrenched in a drug problem that he can’t see any other way to live.
It is important to realize that you may have to leave your relationship in order to get the help that you need. It’s simply too difficult to get sober from drugs if you’re spending your time with people who do drugs. It’s even worse when it’s your partner in life because this person probably has such a strong influence over you.
You don’t have to stay away from this relationship forever. However, you do need to get out of it until a future date. Either you will eventually be strong enough to be around this person without getting back into drugs or he will change and also get treatment. Either way, if he’s not supporting you right now then you probably need to step away while you get help.
