Traveling With the Whole Family or Split Up?

My father-in-law said something interesting:  he said that my husband and I should split up and each take one boy on a separate plane when we travel so that if something happened we wouldn’t all be lost.  A little inappropriate but his heart is in the right place.  My husband said he’d rather we all went down together, so we would travel together.

It got me thinking, though, that I really ought to get some life insurance before we fly.  Even if it’s just term insurance that I keep, say, til the boys are out of college.  I suppose we should have gotten it when we bought the house.  Now I’m not sure if I can bundle the payments together with home insurance or not.

But sometimes I think that it wouldn’t hurt if we split up, would it?  I know the Royal Family in Britain does it all the time:  Prince Charles can’t even travel together with one of his boys.  Does anyone else really do that, though?

That’s insane. You’re more likely to get struck by lightning than be killed in a plane crash. Besides, is it really a family vacation if you’re not with your family?

I’ve got news for you, man — you’re not the Queen of England. Go with your whole family, enjoy their company, and thank God that you can actually afford a vacation in this economy.

Actually, my aunt never flew on a single plane until she was fully covered on a life insurance plan. It sounded crazy at the time, but I’m hearing about a lot more plane crashes in the news.

When it comes to insurance, I’ve always considered term insurance to be just like gambling. Not only does something terrible have to happen to you, but it has to happen during a specific period of time.

When my mother started losing it, she insisted that my whole family take separate cars whenever we went anywhere. You can’t let a bout of paranoia consume your life.
