Keeping a Bladder Diary for Incontinence Diagnosis

One of the best choices that I have ever made was to consult my family doctor concerning the intermittent urinary incontinence that I had been experiencing last month. The involuntary leakage of urine was a huge concern for me; however, I sort of just thought that it was a normal part of the aging process. I felt that it was probably something that everyone had to deal with as they get older, but I found out that is not necessarily true.

Keeping the bladder diary up to date was the first thing that my doctor asked me to do. That meant recording everything that affects bladder control, including anything that I drink, the frequency of urination and the times accurately recorded for review. With the series of tests that were conducted and my bladder diary tool, my doctor was able to properly diagnose my pelvic floor disorder. We are now on our way to creating a plan for continued continence.

My doctor recommended that I change my eating habits and do daily stretching and strengthening exercises, along with using a male external catheter for my bladder control problems until they are solved. Coupling all of these methods with continuing to maintain my bladder diary will give him the information on my next visit to discover what surgery or other treatment avenue that we can explore for ongoing continence.
