Where to Store Furniture During a Renovation
By Archives on Apr 22, 2009 in General
When we decided to do a major renovation on our house, we never took into consideration the fact that for a long period of time certain parts of the house would be unusable. When we gutted our kitchen, dining room and living room, we soon discovered that we needed to store the furniture from those rooms somewhere else. Our upstairs was already crowded with things from the basement, as we were also redoing it. It looked like we were going to have to move all of the furniture and other things from our main level in a self storage unit.
We called around to several self storage facilities in our area and found out that quite a few of them required that you sign a year long lease. We knew that we weren’t going to need to have the stuff in storage for that long, so we really didn’t want to rent out a space for a year. Finally we got lucky and found a place that allowed you to rent out their storage units on a monthly basis, which was perfect for our situation.
The facility also sold moving supplies such as boxes and packing tape, meaning that we were able to kill two birds with one stone by renting the unit and getting what we needed to move our things in one stop.

Some companies have a new service where they will bring a storage unit to your house. You simply fill it up then they take it away to a storage facility. That way you don’t have to go through the hassle of loading up the furniture and unloading it again.
