Tips for Decorating Your Christmas Tree

rope lightsA beautiful artificial Christmas tree is more than a random concoction of rope lights and mini lights. It’s a well planned out design that captures the eye and directs it throughout the tree in a logical path.

Here are a few tips to consider when decorating your Christmas tree.

  • Add Depth- One of the biggest mistakes people make when decorating their tree is to place everything on the edge of the branches. Give your tree some depth by working from the inside out. Hang your lights and ornaments at both the core of your tree and the edge of the branches. This takes your tree from 2D to 3D.
  • Keep Tree Looking Fresh- If you don’t use an artificial tree, you need to focus on keeping your tree looking green and fresh. Make sure the tree always has enough water, and eliminate heat near the tree. You want to make certain the tree absorbs as much water as possible so that it can stay fresher for longer.
  • Use Special Ornaments- Don’t just buy a big box of ornaments for your tree and leave it at that. Mix in some custom items that will give your tree a unique look. Whether these are homemade ornaments or hard to find ones from another country, it’s these little touches that take your tree to the next level.

Those are great ideas! The first one is so true. I see folks who just put lights on the outermost edges and, to me, it really under utilizes the tree. It’s much more vibrant to have that three-dimensional depth.

It always amazes me how creative kids can be when you get them involved in making ornaments. Of course, this is if you have young children and don’t mind the wide array of creations that they make.

Depth is so important yet often overlooked. People should take full advantage of the entire tree, not just the outer edges.

That’s the disappointing thing about natural trees — they can dry out quickly if you don’t keep watch on them.

Cool idea to come up with unique ornaments. The sky’s the limit when you get creative like that. Foil, CDs, ribbons, etc.
