Tips for Throwing an Office Halloween Party

Are you interested in celebrating Halloween with your staff with an office Halloween party?  If so, here are some tips that many bosses don’t think of when they are planning the office party.

  • Plan the party for a day and time when people will be able to come.  You’ll need to think of things such as when parents will be doing Halloween stuff with their kids, for instance.  An early Halloween party is usually best — both early in the month and early in the evening!
  • Parties during work hours work well.  This way everyone is always there, no one has to worry about child care, etc.  People can wear their Halloween costumes to work, or bring masks such as a Michael Myers mask.
  • Don’t overwhelm people with party stuff.  Costumes, some goodies, and perhaps a game or two are usually enough.  Many people feel awkward about work parties, and you don’t want to scare them away with crazy requirements such as bringing their SOs and wearing couples Halloween costumes!  In general, the more lighthearted and laid back, the better.
  • No alcohol.  There are all kinds of reasons why offering alcoholic drinks is not a good idea.  For one thing, not all of your staff may be old enough or otherwise able to drink.  For another thing, drinking at office parties sometimes creates awkward or downright volatile situations.  If your employees want to drink together, most likely they’ll make plans to go to a bar together after the party.

Planning an office party is a nice thing to do for your employees, but you should exercise caution to make sure it turns out to be the successful event you originally had in mind!
